About Other-world Creative

Other-world Creative is the passion project of Cameron Thompson. Started in 2016 with help from McKenzie Tyler, it was originally intended to be an "assisted self-publishing platform" and promoted creative writing and short stories, with many people submitting fictional works to showcase on the website and eventually get published into a physical book. Unfortunately we never got to that stage - It proved difficult to find funding for the ongoing upkeep required, and lack of time was also a factor that eventually caused the original website to close down. With no backup of any of the stories on the website, they are mostly believed to be lost to time. Now in 2026, Other-world Creative is back with a fresh focus. Moving away from open ended publishing, and towards a more community based setup, engaging in projects that interest us and our community. The first of such projects being "The Tale Itself" which you can read more about in the "Current Projects" section of the website, or dive right in at thetaleitself.com

Current Projects

Our only current project is The Tale Itself - an ongoing fantasy world, shaped by people and cultures. The project was inspired by YouTuber Beluga's experiment where he let 833,000 people contribute to his essay on Google Docs in real time. We wanted to do something similar with a fantasy story but soon realised that if we also wanted a coherent narrative, we would need some degree of structure and process, rather than a literary free-for-all.And thus, The Tale Itself was born - an ongoing story, freely published to the world and open to wherever you want to take it. There are a few rules to follow and a structure to the submissions. You can find the tale, as well as more information on submissions at thetaleitself.comWe had given thought to running something similar to Beluga's experiment alongside The Tale Itself, where submissions are limited to a sentence but can be added by anyone at any time in a shared document, but it was decided that we want the main story to gain a bit of traction before beginning The Chaos Itself.

Get Involved

The best way to get involved is by joining our Discord to become an active member of our community, join discussions, and share ideas. You can also get involved by making submissions to The Tale Itself, donating on our Ko-fi page to help with maintenance and artwork, and by spreading the word - We have no real budget for advertising so we rely on word of mouth to get our community and our projects out to the world!
